The Science of Audit
Learn science based approaches to audit decision making and communication and then experience why they work
Audit Lab is a radically different, rich-learning style of professional development.
You won’t just sit back and take notes—you’ll jump into action. This half or full-day experience immerses auditors in real-time simulations, investigative challenges, and collaborative analysis based on real research in auditor psychology and decision-making.
Led by Dr. Toby Groves, a recognized expert in audit reasoning, the lab blends engaging instruction, cognitive science, and realistic audit simulations. The goal? To transform how auditors think, respond under pressure, and make decisions in uncertainty.
It’s not just about learning audit techniques. It’s about thinking more clearly, communicating more effectively, and becoming the kind of auditor who brings real insight and value.

Simulations That Challenge and Reveal
Each simulation is designed like a live lab experiment:
Teams handle separate but interconnected pieces of a large unfolding scenario.
You’ll investigate fraud, analyze weak controls, respond to risk events, and make judgment calls in real time.
You’ll learn not just from your actions, but from the ripple effects your team and others cause in the simulation – How your decisions impact your team and the organization.
Simulations adapt based on participant decisions, injecting new information midstream and evolving as a real audit would. You’ll rotate teams and roles throughout the day to develop agility, communication skills, and team intelligence.
This is experiential audit learning at its best—it’s messy, human, unpredictable, and incredibly effective.
Why Audit Lab Works
Audit Lab is built on the neuroscience of learning and performance.
You learn more deeply when you’re in the experience, not just hearing about it.
You gain insight from teammates—not just the content—by learning how different minds work under pressure.
You build critical judgment by facing challenges, adapting to new information, and receiving expert feedback.
What You’ll Do:
Rotate through dynamic team roles, from stakeholder communication to controls evaluation.
Tackle real-world inspired fraud cases, ethical dilemmas, and operational breakdowns.
Present your findings to peers, gain insights from other teams, and hear feedback from experts.
Watch the simulation change as your decisions shape the unfolding scenario—powered by AI-enhanced facilitation.
You’ll explore not just what to think, but how to think better as an audit professional.

Why I Created Audit Lab
Auditors are expected to make critical decisions in ambiguous situations, but most training doesn’t simulate that reality. I created Audit Lab to bridge that gap.
You’ll learn audit principles, of course—but more importantly, you’ll learn how to work better together, communicate clearly, and think through real-world chaos with clarity.
This isn’t a lecture. It’s a shared experience. And by the end, you’ll never look at auditing—or learning—the same way again.
